Introduction
As a trusted lift modernisation company, we take pride in solving complex challenges related to lift systems. We were recently approached by a condominium in District 10, facing a severe lift-related crisis. The client, a condominium with only one lift per block serving 10 floors, was grappling with frequent breakdowns, costly repairs, obsolete parts, and mounting frustration among residents. This case study outlines how we successfully replaced two aging lifts, meeting the client's critical needs and exceeding their expectations.
The Challenge
Problem
The condominium's lift problem had reached a breaking point. Frequent breakdowns had resulted in angry and frustrated residents. With only one lift per block, a reliable transportation system was imperative. The incumbent lift vendor couldn't resolve the issue, even after months of effort.
We were recommended to the condominium by one of their council members, who had heard about our expertise in lift modernisation and replacement. Understanding the criticality of the problem, we were invited to conduct a non-obligatory survey and propose a solution.
Solution
We identified two major deliverables for this project: Speed (time to complete) and Reliability (new lift system). Initially, we proposed a full lift modernisation, which would take approximately 4 weeks to complete for each lift (including the Lift Control System and Lift Driving System). However, the MCST council challenged us to completely replace the lifts in the same 4-week timeframe. This was a bold move, but it was driven by the frustration of residents and their desire for a completely new, reliable lift system.
Our timeline for the project was as follows:
- 1st Aug 2018 to 31st Aug 2018 – Full Lift Replacement for Lift A
- 1st Sept 2018 to 30th Sept 2018 – Full Lift Replacement for Lift B
To meet this challenging deadline, we had to meticulously plan and execute the project. We tracked key deliverables at the end of each week, adjusted resources as needed, and promptly resolved any issues. The on-site team worked tirelessly, even on weekends, to ensure project success. Residents also cooperated by enduring the work noise, knowing it was for their benefit.
Key Results and Outcomes
Our efforts resulted in several key outcomes:
- Elimination of frequent breakdowns and frustration among residents.
- Installation of brand new lifts designed to last 15-20 years, reducing future maintenance and repair costs.
- Enhancement of the overall property value.
- Fulfillment of the MCST council's promise to residents, allowing some to return and live without the headaches of costly part replacements or repairs.
Conclusion
This project was a significant challenge, but we viewed it as an opportunity to push our limits and showcase our engineering capabilities. Through effective project management and meticulous execution, we not only met the 4-week deadline but also exceeded the MCST council's and residents' expectations. It was a testament to our commitment to solving critical lift-related issues and delivering outstanding results.
