Project Details
Introduction
In this case study, we will showcase our successful lift conversion project for a prominent SGX listed solutions manufacturing company. The project involved converting an aging hydraulic cargo lift into a modern motor room-less traction lift, with a focus on minimizing downtime and ensuring operational readiness.
The Challenge
Problem
The client faced a significant challenge with their two 20-year-old hydraulic cargo lifts. These lifts were plagued by aging components, parts obsolescence, and increasing breakdown rates. As these cargo lifts were crucial to their daily operations, the frequent breakdowns and escalating repair costs posed a severe threat to their business continuity.
Solution
To address the problem, we recommended the conversion of the hydraulic cargo lift into a motor room-less traction lift, leveraging modern technology and energy-efficient solutions. Hydraulic lifts were being phased out due to their space-consuming hydraulic oil tanks, high energy consumption, slower speed, and increased maintenance costs over time.
The benefits of the proposed solution included:
- Space Efficiency: Traction lifts require significantly less space due to their motor room-less design.
- Energy Efficiency: Traction lifts use "Permanent Magnet" technology, resulting in lower power consumption.
- Reduced Maintenance: Modern lifts are simpler to maintain and more cost-effective in the long run.
We assured the customer that we could minimize operational disruptions during the 6-week conversion period. To achieve this, we implemented several strategies:
- Salvaging and cannibalizing lift components from the lift slated for replacement.
- Immediate replacement of any components in the remaining lift using cannibalized parts.
- Repairing any damaged components to serve as additional backup.
- Maintaining critical components in our store for an additional layer of backup.
These measures significantly reduced the probability of prolonged breakdowns and gave the customer confidence in proceeding with the Lift Conversion.
Key Results and Outcomes
Our project achieved the following key results and outcomes:
- Reduced frequency of breakdowns, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
- Guaranteed operational readiness with a brand-new lift.
- Long-term cost savings through reduced costly parts replacement and repair.
- Enhanced energy efficiency with the new motor room-less traction lift.
- Elimination of lift component obsolescence concerns.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our lift conversion project for the client successfully addressed their aging hydraulic cargo lift challenges. By implementing a modern motor room-less traction lift solution, we not only improved operational efficiency but also ensured long-term cost savings and energy efficiency. Our commitment to minimizing downtime and providing backup solutions reassured the customer and led to a successful project completion within the stipulated 6-week timeframe. This project exemplifies our expertise in lift modernization and our dedication to meeting the unique needs of our clients.
